Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists are drugs approved for the treatment of diabetes and are also used off-label for weight loss. Studies have found an increased risk of adverse gastrointestinal events (biliary disease, pancreatitis, intestinal obstruction, and stomach cramps) in diabetic patients. Considering the small sample size and short follow-up time of randomized trials investigating the weight loss effects of GLP-1 agonists, the investigators investigated gastrointestinal adverse events associated with weight loss of GLP-1 agonists in a clinical setting.
Cellular senescence is defined as a permanent state of proliferative arrest and is one of the hallmarks triggered by various forms of damage and stress. Animal studies have shown that caloric restriction (CR) reduces the molecular characteristics of cellular senescence in various tissues, and preclinical studies have also found that CR can exert its beneficial effects by delaying the basic characteristics of senescence, but the effects of CR on human aging markers are still poorly understood.
Perinatal depression (PD) is one of the most common conditions during pregnancy and postpartum and poses a significant challenge to public health. On August 4, 2023, the US FDA approved the first oral drug for the treatment of postpartum depression: zuranolone, which is a welcome progress for the relative stagnation of drug innovation in this field. However, the impact of perinatal mental health on maternal health is seriously underestimated.
