As deputy editor-in-chief of the Chinese Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases, I often discuss the boundaries of disease prevention and treatment with leading scholars and clinicians in the cardiovascular field. In academic conferences and grass-roots research, we gradually formed a consensus: clinical medical staff should not only be "firefighters" of diseases, but also "firewalls" and "wall builders" of health defense lines. Faced with the blowout growth of the incidence of hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease and hyperlipidemia, especially the intensification of the younger disease (the incidence of cardiovascular events in people aged 30-44 increases by 5%-8% annually), it is difficult to turn the tide by scalpels and drugs alone. Only by paying equal attention to popular science and scientific and technological innovation and pushing the prevention barrier forward can we usher in the inflection point of the decline of cardiovascular mortality in China in the protracted war of cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment.
2025 is an important moment for the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Medical Association and the 52nd anniversary of the Chinese Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases. The Chinese Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases is affiliated with the Journal of the Chinese Medical Association led by the Chinese Medical Association. As the earliest specialist journal of cardiovascular diseases in China, Chinese Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases has always stood at the forefront of the discipline since its inception in 1973, witnessing the vigorous development of cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment in China. On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Medical Association, we specially set up the "110th anniversary column of the founding of the Chinese Medical Association" to review the 52-year glorious history of the Chinese Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases and show its important role in leading the development of disciplines and promoting talent training.
Professor Li Guoqing, an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, winner of the Bethune Medal, and academic leader of the People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, passed away on May 15, 2025 at the age of 63 due to ineffective medical treatment.
