prolonged postoperative ileus (PPOI) is a common complication after abdominal surgery, which can increase the incidence of postoperative complications, prolong the length of hospital stay, and increase the hospitalization cost^[1,2]。 The definition of PPOI is controversial. The incidence of PPOI reported in the literature varies greatly, and it has not gained widespread attention from clinicians in China. There is also a lack of unified diagnostic criteria, and the clinical evidence of related factors is insufficient. We carried out a multi-center case registry study on the occurrence and influencing factors of delayed postoperative intestinal paralysis in abdominal surgery, in order to clarify the incidence of PPOI in patients undergoing open surgery in China, analyze its related factors, and provide reference for clinicians to take effective intervention measures. The results are reported below.

2009 Wilhelm and Metzig^[1]The world's first transoral laparoscopic thyroidectomy was reported. In 2011, the general surgery department of our hospital began to apply transoral laparoscopic thyroidectomy to the clinic^[2]In the same year, Wang Cunchuan et al^[3]Laparoscopic thyroid surgery by oral vestibular approach was performed. In recent years, transoral laparoscopic thyroid surgery has been successfully carried out in many countries and centers, with thousands of surgical patients, but at the same time, surgical complications such as mental nerve injury and numbness of lower lip have also appeared. 2018 Chen et al.^[4]A laparoscopic thyroid surgery with a subgenial vestibular approach is reported, in which a 10 mm viewing hole is moved from the oral vestibule to the subgenial region, thereby avoiding postoperative mental nerve injury. The general surgery department of our hospital carried out laparoscopic thyroid surgery by subgenial vestibular approach in November 2019. The results are reported as follows.
