Epilepsy is one of the most common and serious neurological diseases, and has been listed by the World Health Organization as one of the five major neuropsychiatric diseases in the world. Epidemiological investigation shows that the prevalence of epilepsy in China is as high as 7‰, and there are more than 9 million epileptic patients in China, and the rate of new cases is increasing at 400,000~600,000 every year[1,2]。 Epilepsy has a high disability rate and is difficult to cure. Most patients need to take medication for life, and the course of treatment is long. However, in clinical practice, most patients with epilepsy have poor treatment compliance, and the proportion of unauthorized drug discontinuation, drug reduction, dressing change and refusal is as high as 67%, which directly leads to poor epilepsy control and brings a heavy burden to patients' families and society. Therefore, the drug treatment of epilepsy urgently needs long-term standardized management. In view of this, we discussed and proposed the expert consensus on long-term management of epilepsy in adults to guide more rational and standardized long-term treatment and follow-up of epilepsy patients in clinical practice. This article mainly deals with the problem of long-term management in women and elderly patients with epilepsy.
