Insomnia is the most common type of sleep disorder in clinic. Long-term insomnia will have a serious negative impact on normal life and work, and even lead to malignant accidents[1]。 In 2002, the epidemiological study of insomnia in 10 countries worldwide (questionnaire survey) showed that 45.4% of Chinese people had experienced insomnia in different degrees in the past month[2]。 In order to standardize the clinical application of insomnia treatment drugs, the Insomnia Diagnosis and Treatment Consensus Expert Group drafted the Chinese Expert Consensus on the Definition, Diagnosis and Drug Treatment of Insomnia in 2004, which was officially published in 2006 after many revisions. This consensus has played an important guiding role in standardizing the clinical diagnosis and treatment of insomnia. In 2010, the Sleep Disorder Group of Neurology Branch of Chinese Medical Association invited experts from relevant disciplines to form the diagnosis and treatment guidelines for adult insomnia in China after many discussions according to the principles of evidence-based medicine, referring to the relevant progress data in the field of insomnia diagnosis and treatment in recent years, and combining with China's national conditions, aiming to provide clinicians with a standardized framework for adult insomnia diagnosis and treatment. In the course of clinical practice, physicians should still carry out individualized treatment according to the specific condition of patients when referring to this guideline.
