April 20, 2020,J Am Coll CardiolA prospective study on primary hyperaldosteronism (PA) led by Professor Li Qifu, Department of Endocrinology, First Affiliated Hospital, Chongqing Medical University was published online [Xu Z, Yang J, Hu J, et al. Primary aldosteronism in patients with recently detected hypertension in china. J Am Coll Cardiol, 2020, 75 (16): 1913 – 1922.]. This is the first time in the world to target newly diagnosed hypertensive patients (course of<1 year), a prospective cohort study of PA screening, diagnosis, classification, treatment and follow-up. The study confirms that PA is not uncommon in Chinese hypertensive patients, and the good clinical benefit of PA patients following specific therapy (unilateral adrenalectomy or mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists) indicates the importance of screening for PA in hypertensive patients.
