Epidemiological surveys showed that the age-adjusted prevalence of diabetes among Chinese residents based on fasting blood glucose (FPG) and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) tests was 9.7%, the prevalence of prediabetes was 15.5%, and the prevalence of abnormal glucose tolerance (IGT) was significantly higher than that of impaired fasting blood glucose (IFG)[1]。 It is well known that abnormal glucose metabolism (including diabetes and pre-diabetes) is closely related to cardiovascular diseases. Abnormal glucose metabolism can significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular events in both patients who have already developed cardiovascular diseases and their high-risk groups[2]Early screening for abnormal glucose metabolism and reasonable intervention may help to improve the cardiovascular prognosis of patients[3]。 To this end, the Evidence-Based Medicine Professional Committee of Chinese Medical Doctors Association formulated the "Chinese Expert Consensus on Blood Glucose Management in Patients with Stable Coronary Heart Disease" in 2009[4]It has significantly improved the importance of the majority of clinicians on early screening and intervention of abnormal glucose metabolism in patients with coronary heart disease, but a considerable number of patients are still missed in the current clinical practice of cardiology. The above consensus recommends that OGTT be used as a routine test item for blood glucose screening in patients with coronary heart disease. Although OGTT is the standard method for diagnosing impaired glucose regulation (IGR) and diabetes, it is not suitable for patients of all risk levels due to its inconvenience, high labor and material consumption, and unstable results. This consensus aims to provide clinicians with a simple, effective, and operational screening process for cardiology patients.
