IgG antibody to purified protein derivative(PPD)in cerebrospinal fluid was deternined by ELISA in 68 children with tuberculous meningitis, 18 children with pyogenic meningitis, 19 children with virus meningitis, and 38 children with other disease who had normal CSF finding. Positive results were obtained in 95.2—96.2%of children with tuberculous meningitis older than 1 year and in 71.4% of cases under 1 year of age. The antibody level was close correlated with ages. Serial studies in 17 children with tuberculous meningitis showed that the antibody level was paralled with the patient's clinical course, cell counts and protein content of the spinal fluid.
