Occasionally looking through the photo album these days, an old photo with a slight yellowing color came into view, which brought back endless memories of me. This group photo brought my thoughts back to Beijing in the spring of 1982-on March 17th, the National Conference on Rheumatology and the Sino-British Rheumatology Symposium organized by the Chinese Medical Association were held in the guest house of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. In the front row of the photo, there are not only Mr. Bai Xiqing, then president of the Chinese Medical Association, Mr. Fu Yicheng, secretary general, but also many big coffee and leading internal medicine experts in the medical field, including Zhang Xiaoqian, Deng Jiadong, Zhong Huilan, Huang Mingxin, Weng Xinzhi, Zhang Naizheng, Jiang Shaoji, Fu Shiying, Zhao Boshi, and Professor Yang Guoliang, a veteran of dermatology (Figure 1). When I first arrived at that time, I saw many "idols" that I only saw in textbooks, and I was excited beyond words. At that time, I presented a paper entitled "Rheumatism and the Sociology of Medicine" to the congress, the core content of which was to discuss the relationship between the occurrence of rheumatism and the sociology of medicine. There were three representatives from Henan who attended the meeting. Besides me, the other two were Wu Shiyuan, director of the Department of Internal Medicine of 988 Hospital of the Joint Logistics Support Department of the People's Liberation Army, and Lu Cunshou, director of the Department of Internal Medicine of Fan County People's Hospital. Among them, the paper submitted by Director Lu was exchanged at the conference. He was inspired by the local township medical fresh rehmannia decoction for the treatment of Sheehan syndrome, and realized that raw rehmannia may have hormone-like effects; Subsequently, he confirmed through animal experiments that the vitamin C content in the adrenal cortex of animals increased after taking raw rehmannia decoction. Based on this, Director Lu tried to treat rheumatoid arthritis with raw rehmannia decoction, and achieved certain results. After the meeting, I also accompanied Director Lu to my alma mater, then Xinxiang Medical College (now renamed Henan Medical University), and sought help from the pharmacology teaching and research group, hoping to extract effective pharmaceutical ingredients from the birthplace. Unfortunately, due to the experimental conditions at that time, it returned to no avail.
