A 15 year old girl had an aneurysmal bone cyst involving her left femoral neck and the greater trochanter for 17 months. The lesion was resected and the femoral neck and trochanter reconstructed with 4 illiac grafts pinned together with a trifin nail, the tip of which was hammered into the head and the tail fixed to the shaft. 16 months postoperatively, corrosion of the screw joining the nail and plate caused separation of the neck and shaft. This necessitated a revised operation and reinforcement with bone grafts. The anatomical and functional results were satisfactory 5 years after the second operation. The present bone grafting design is worth using in exceptional or selected cases requiring femoral neck reconstruction.

In the Shijingshan District of Beijing, cardiovascular disease was the first leading cause of death in recent years. During the 5 year period, 1975-1979, a community control program of hypertension, stroke and ischemic heart disease has been carried out in this district. By the WHO criteria, the prevalence rate of hypertension, in people above 15 years of age was 8.11%. All hypertensives have been given periodic check ups and drug therapy. Satisfactory control of hypertension has been obtained. Stroke mortality has been reduced by 23% in a people's commune, but mortality of acute myocardial infarction is increased.

The authors review the history of auricular reconstruction to overcome the shortcomings, they improvise single stage auricular reconstruction by pedicle composite flap of the superficial temporal fascia and fascia muscularis temporalis. The preliminary results are reported.

Selective angiography with Seldinger's technic was done in 50 cases later diagnosed as primary hepatocellular carcinoma (PHCC) by surgery, autopsy liver puncture or significantly positive alpha feto-proitein Angiographic studies in 48 cases showed typical PHCC vascular patterns, the positive rate being 96%. Supplying artery enlargement, marked tumor vascular proliferation and tumor stain, etc are common PHCC features characterized only in those with blurred contours, vessel-lake and invasion of the portal vein. Poirtal vein anomalies in 37 cases include early filling, regurgitation, narrowing and obliteration, filling defect and thread and streak sign. Tumor circulation was absent in 6 cases with avasicular space occupying lesions. According to the growth pattern and angiographic features, PHCC is classified into massive, nodular and diffuse types. Angiographic findings of each type are described and advantages of selective angiography discussed.

Analysis of 61 cases of insulinoma shows that the clinical characteristics resemble a variety of neuropsychiatric disorders and diagnosis may thus be delayed for many years. Aberrant behavior patterns and disturbances in consciousness are most common. Many patients have predominantly epileptic attacks of organic neurologic abnormalities The latter is due to brain damage occurring due to hypoglycemic coma. Careful inquiry about the history of illness, including the time of attacks is important in early diagnosis of the disease.

10 cases of sclerosing stromal tumors of the ovary are presented. This is perhaps the first series reported in China The clinical and pathologic features of the tumors are analyzed. 70% of the cases occurred in young women (17-32 years of age). The major clinical manifestations were menstrual disorders and infertility, which responded dramatically to removal of the tumors. The distinctive pathologic features are an admixture of pleomorphic tumor cells with concurrent morphology of ovarian fibromatous, the comatous and lipoid tumor cells; pseudolobular pattern of cellular areas separated by edematous stroma with a tendency to sclerosis. The tumor is benign and considered to arise from gonadal stroma of the ovary.

6 cases of duodenal injury were seen with 1 death during the years 1968-1979. Local repair, duodenostomy and partial gastrectomy plus Billroth's II reconstruction are considered the treatment of choice for cases with severe duodenal mutilation, while in cases complicated by severe trauma, local repair and side-to-side anastomosis are indicated.

The quantitative morphology of experimental rabbit coronary atherosclerosis is rarely reported. This paper shows how the measurement is made on histologic sections by light microscope.

This paper reports the normal values of 12 dermatoglyphic parameters in Chlinese Hans. They are total finger ridge count (TFRC), a-b total ridge count (a-b TRC), atd angle and axial triradius percent distance (tPD) and frequencies of simian line, finger prints, palmar thenar patterns, palmar interdigital patterns, palmar hypothenar patterns, sole hallucal patterns, sole interdigital patterns, sole hypothenar patterns and sole calcar patterns. The data are compared with those of Caucasians.

Echocardiography combined with roentgenography and electrocardiography (ECG) were performed on 69 chronic cor pulmonale patients and 30 normal subjects in order to assess its value in early diagnosis. The echocardiography is a very useful method in early diagnosis of chronic cor pulmonale since it can image the structures of the heart and vessels and may be used to measure dimensions of the cavities and wall thickness. However, some factors such as emphysema, defects of ultrasonic instrument and technical skill of the operator may affect the results. This study has shown that echocardiography combined with roentgenography and ECG may increase the detection rate and reliability of early chronic cor pulmonale.
