With the acceleration of population aging, the incidence of dementia in the world is increasing year by year, which not only endangers the physical and mental health and quality of life of the elderly, but also brings a heavy burden to families and society, which has become a serious problem faced by families, society and government. However, the treatment methods for dementia are limited, and the current treatment methods cannot contain the rapid growth of dementia incidence. As early as the end of the 20th century, the United States, Britain and other developed countries began to set up academic organizations, aiming at promoting international dementia research, improving the prevention and treatment level of early dementia, and effectively reducing the incidence rate. The dementia academic organization of the Neurology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association in China started late, and it was not until 2006 that the dementia and cognitive impairment group was established. The establishment of the group conforms to the trend of medical development, greatly promotes the multidisciplinary intersection of clinical and basic research in dementia and cognitive impairment in China, makes dementia research get widespread attention, attracts a large number of clinicians and researchers to invest in it, and is of great significance to promote the development of neurology and dementia in China. Today, we review the 13-year history of the dementia and cognitive impairment group from its establishment to the present. On the one hand, we summarize the work done by the experts of the group to promote the development of cognitive impairment in China, and on the other hand, we also provide reference for clarifying the focus and direction of the work of the group in the future.
