This paper summerizs the laparoscopic examinations in 136 patients (98 female and 38 male) with intractable chronic chronic abdominal pain. Most of them were under the age of 39, the incidence was found higher in young adults. The course of abdominal pain was mostly over one year, 50% of the cases over 2 years and the longest period even lasted 11 years. Lapaarscopic examinations revealed that abdominal pain was associ ated with adhesion to the local tissues. Among the 113 cases, the adhesion of liver, gall-bladder, abdominal wall, gastrointestine and spleen to their surrounding tissues was found in 75 cases (55,2%) , 18 (12,3%) , 6 (4,4%) and 2 (1,5%) respectively. Abdominalgia disappeared immediately after the separation of adhesion in 4 cases. The author suggests that the condition may be termed as "upper abdominal adhesion syndrome"
