Opsonization activity was determined in 15 cases of hepatic failure and 42 cases of various types cf chronic hepatitis B by semiquantitative radiometric method. The opsonin indices were significantly reduced in hepatic failure and severe chronic active hepatitis. Addition of normal fresh serum or thymopeptide showed a distinct effect on the defective opsonization in patients with hepatic failure.

A patient with recurrent paroxysmal tachycardia of right bundle branch block morphology (RBBBM) and atrioventricular (AV) dissociation is demonstrated by electrophysiologic study to have dual AV nodal pathways and a unique left sided nodoventricular (NV) tract. Dual AV nodal pathway was manifest in three ways: sudden increment in AV nodal conduction in response to premature stimulation, double ventricular responses to single atrial extrastimuli and alternating fast and slow pathway conduction during right atrial (RA) programmed stimulation or RA overdrive pacing. The A-H interval of the fast pathway was 180 msec and that of the slow pathway was 290-330 msec. During RA stimulation, conduction over the slow pathway was associated with marked prolongation of AV conduction, decrease of the H-V interval (0-30 msec) and induction of a QRS morphology similar or identical to that recorded during spontaneous tachycardia. Tachycardia could be initiated by RA stimulation when impulses were conducted over the slow pathway or by right ventricular stimulation. The variation of QRS duration from 90-125 msec in RBBBM tachycardia indicated that the reentry circuit was confined to the AV node using the slow pathway as the antegrade limb and the fast pathway as the retrograde limb and that the anomalous tract was a NV fiber rather than a fascicaloventricular fiber.
Preliminary results with Dot-ELISA, a technic originating in China, show that no false positive reactions are obtained among 65 normal controls, while the positive rates of 63 schistosomiasis cases were 88.9-96.8%, with a certain degree of cross reaction between clonorchiasis and paragonimiasis patients. Compared to plate-ELISA, Dot-ELISA requires higher concentrations of HRP-conjugate but the quantity of reagents needed is much less. Positive color dots on the nitrocellulose forming after using 3,3 diaminobenzidine, can be maintained for quite long periods. 4-chloro-1-naphthol generates a blue color which fades more quickly. Since the antigen-reactivity of dried antigen bound nitrocellulose stored at 4 C can be maintained for at least 4 weeks and the quality of China-made nitrocellulose is practically comparable to that of the imported variety, it seems reasonable to suggest extensive use cf the technic for supplementary diagnosis of schistosomiasis. As to substrates, 4-chloro-1-naphthol is devoid of carcinogenicity and positive reactions are indicated by clearly visible blue dots against an almost colorless background. 3,3 diaminobenzidine is more commonly used and its color reaction lasts longer.
There is increasing play an important role atherosclerosis and even evidence that platelets in the pathogenesis of sudden death. This paper presents a study of platelet functions, their morphological changes and blood factor VIII in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD).
Plasma testosterone and estradiol are determined in 72 patients with abnormal high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol/total cholesterol (H/T) ratio values, and in 72 randomly chosen males with normal HDLC and H/T values. The results showed that plasma testosterone levels in the groups with abnormal HDL-C and H/T were obviously lower than those in the controls. Statistically significant differences were found in all the abnormal groups in comparison with the controls (P<0.001). This difference was not shown in the plasma estradiol levels (P>0.20). Testosterone levels lowered further with increasing age in the groups with abnormal HDL-C and H/T, the most obvious drops were in the groups around 56 years of age (P<0.005). The data indicate that male hormone deficiency may reduce HDL-C and H/T and facilitate the process of atherosclerosis. Therefore, it seems rational to treat such patients with male sex hormone preparations or to use the traditional Chinese medicines which strengthen Yang (maleness) in a new attempt to treat and prevent CHD.

摘要
The effect of biphenyl-dimethyl dicarboxylate (DDB), a substance derived in the synthesis of Fructus schisandrae elements, on treating and preventing hepatitis due to drug poisoning in chemotherapy of choriocarcinoma and invasive mole was investigated. For treating purpose 23 cases of hepatitis because of chemotherapy were given DDB and for prevention DDB together with chemotherapy was given to 22 cases. Control groups were used for comparison. It was found that DDB is definitely effective as judged by the results of SGPT, TTT, TFT, etc.
A family of congenital malformation syndrome consisting mainly of polydactylism with hypoplasia as well as physical and mental retardation is reported. As neither such case nor the similar has been reported in the literature, we name it tentatively as "polydactylic dwarfism syndrome". The disease has so far passed on four generations in the family with 16 members affected. The male and female members were equally (7:9) affected. This rarely seen syndrome is caused by an autosomal dominant mutant gene with pleiotropic effect.
72 normal male rabbits were used for assessing the factors which influence the absorption of thiotepa and camptothecin after intravesical instillation. 32 patients with carcinoma of the bladder were studied simultaneously. All data were processed by computer. It was found that the essential factors in fluencing the absorption rate in descending order of importance were dosage, temperature of solution, time for drug retained in the bladder, concentration oF the drug as well as frequency of instillation and volume of urine in the bladder. The absorption of thiotepa in the mucosa was about two times that of the muscle. Recovery of bladder mucosa from chemical reaction to its normal appearance took 7 days. The main factors influencing the absorption of thiotepa in bladder instillation of 24 patients were observed according to dosage, time of drug exposure and size of tumor. The molecular weight of camptothecin is 348, higher than that of thiotepa whose molecular weight is 189, but its absorption rate exceeds that of thiotepa.

摘要
The roles of some inflammatory mediators in the pathogenesis of early pulmonary edema by steam inhalation were studied. The experiments were carried out on 36 healthy dogs. The results showed that the pathogenesis of pulmonary edema in severe steam respiratory burns is mainly as follows: direct action by heat leads to organic lesions of pulmonary capillaries and the changes of some inflammatory mediators, i.e., complements, anaphylatoxin, histamine, PGF1 and cAMP, in the left ventricular blood and the lung tissues resulting in increase of permeability of pulmonary capillaries.

Experimental raising of shellfish, amphibians and other fish in water artificially polluted with Vibrio el-tor was started in 1979. The results show that Vibrio el-tor can live in vat water in which both loaches and finless eels are raised 25 weeks despite water renewal every week. Autopsies of all fish showed that 12 of 47 loaches and 7 of 39 eels contained large numbers of Vibrio el-tor in their gall-bladders and intestines, which had caused no pathologic changes. This indicates that loaches and eels ingest the vibrios which then enter the gallbladders and intestines where they multiply and are then excreted into the water. The authors believe that both the loach and finless eel may be reservoirs of Vibrio el-tor, playing a role as a source of cholera infection. Even though our results are from a laboratory situation, they cast new light on the breeding ecology of V. el-tor, and aquatic reservoir transmission of cholera epidemiologically.
