Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines (CJNM) is co-sponsored by China Pharmaceutical University and the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association. The journal primarily publishes research related to natural medicines, including pharmacology, natural medicinal chemistry, biosynthesis of natural products, drug analysis and metabolism, drug target studies, and more.

Journal Mission: Rooted in China and oriented toward the world, CJNM integrates scientific frontiers with national strategic needs to reflect the research advancements and significant achievements in the field of natural medicines both domestically and internationally. It aims to consolidate global academic resources in natural medicines, enhance international exchanges among Chinese researchers in traditional Chinese medicine and natural medicines, and strengthen China's voice in the academic discourse on natural medicines. The journal strives to stay abreast of cutting-edge developments and innovative outcomes in the field, guide research in emerging interdisciplinary areas, foster academic innovation, promote new drug development, cultivate innovative talent, and overcome technical, standardization, regulatory, cultural, and market barriers to the global outreach of traditional Chinese medicine. It serves as a platform to facilitate the standardization and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine.

Journal Sections: CJNM focuses on reporting the discovery and research of active compounds from natural products, as well as their pharmacological effects and mechanisms. It covers a wide range of disciplines, including the isolation of traditional Chinese and natural medicines, chemical identification/activity screening of natural products, pharmacological mechanism studies, biochemical and microbial pharmacy, drug analysis and quality control, pharmacokinetics and clinical applications, DNA-based plant identification, and natural medicine resources. The journal serves as an important window for international exchanges in fields where China holds unique advantages, such as traditional Chinese medicine, herbal medicine, marine drugs, microbial drugs, biochemical drugs, and ethnomedicine.

The journal was selected for the English Echelon Journals under China's Excellence Action Plan for Scientific and Technological Journals in 2019 and 2024, and was chosen as a Leading Journal under the Jiangsu Excellence Action Plan for Scientific and Technological Journals in 2025. It is indexed by 26 international authoritative databases, including SCI, MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus, CAB, and BA.
