Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) remains an intractable global public health burden. An estimated 254 million individuals worldwide live with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, and over a million annual deaths are attributed to HBV-related liver failure, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).[
Microbiome research has shifted from discovering associations to elucidating mechanisms and enabling clinical translation. Its scope has expanded from the gut to multiple body sites, from bacteria to the virome, and across a disease spectrum that includes inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), AIDS, liver diseases, and respiratory infections. The field now confronts the more formidable challenge of moving beyond statistical correlation to establish causal mechanisms and therapeutic targets.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of global cancer mortality, with China bearing a particularly high burden.[
