Shenzhen Hospital of Southern Medical University was wholly-owned by Shenzhen Municipal Government and entrusted to Southern Medical University (formerly the First Military Medical University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army) to manage it in an all-round way. It was officially put into operation in December 2015. It is the first "famous hospital" project of Shenzhen's "three medical and health projects". As an experimental field for government-school cooperation to explore the reform of public hospitals and establish a modern hospital management system, the hospital shoulders the important mission of innovating the system of public hospitals in Shenzhen and setting the brand benchmark of "Shenzhen Quality" in the medical and health field of the special zone. After eight years of hard work, it has been listed as a "Class III A hospital", passed the international hospital evaluation and certification, and was approved as a standardized training base for residents. It has become the only hospital directly affiliated to universities and western Shenzhen regional medical center in Qianhai Free Trade Zone that can undertake medical, teaching and scientific research tasks. The total number of beds in the hospital is 2,500, and the number of beds in the first phase is 1,101, with an annual number of patients>1.6 million. The hospital has one engineering technology research center in Guangdong Province, two engineering research centers in Shenzhen, three key laboratories in Shenzhen and one clinical medical research center in Shenzhen. There are 32 high-level talents, such as winners of the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars and distinguished professors of "Guangdong Special Support Program" (Pearl River Scholars). It is at the leading level in Shenzhen in many fields such as diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases and microecology, interventional diagnosis and treatment of stroke, orthopedic 3D printing, endoscopic minimally invasive treatment, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric ear, nose and throat diseases, and trauma repair.
