Surgical treatment of sympathetic cervical spondylosis by the anterior approach is recommended in cases not responding to conservative treatment. Of 15 (5%) cases operated on, the results were good in 7, fair in 7 and poor in 1. The mechanism, diagnosis and treatment are discussed.

In this paper the mortality rates of lung cancer in Zhongshan county during the years 1970-1978 are reported and analyzed.

From 1973 to 1979 156 cases of hemorrhagic fever (HF) were treated with endoxan. Immunologic studies showed enhancement of humoral immunity, decrease of serum complement and suppression of cellular immunity, all of which appeared early in the course of the disease. Circulating immune complexes (CIC) were found at the same time. Renal biopsy revealed that immune complexes (IC) were present on glomeruli basement membrane. Good clinical response was noted upon early institution of endoxan therapy, more than 90% of the patients did not go through the stages of hypotension and/or oliguria. The pathogenesis of the disease is briefly discussed.

Lung cancer cases among young adults are often neglected and misdiagnosed. This paper analyzes 30 young adult cases of lung cancer. Its pathologic, roentgenologic and clinical problems are discussed.

The prevalence and incidence of severe mental disorders in Beijing agricultural Haidian District population is investigated. The method of investigation and analysis of the data procured is briefly described.

Bladder mucosa flap urethroplasty, a one stage operation for hypospadias repair, is described. Of 110 cases of congenital hypospadias treated by this procedure, 105 (95.5%) were successful. It is indicated for several types of hypospadias and has few complications. For cases with intractable urethral stenosis, the procedure should be preceded by urethrotomy 6 months previously.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) IgG and IgA of 103 cases with disorders of the nervous system without intracranial hemorrhage, CSF IgM of 63 and CSF IgG, IgA and IgM of 9 non-neurologic surgery patients are determined. Increased CSF IgG levels are helpful in the diagnosis of inflammatory demyelinating disorders of the nervous system and increased IgA may also be helpful. CSF concentrated 10 times by polyacrylamide may raise the CSF IgA detection rate. Although the CSF IgG/TP ratio is not a good parameter for the diagnosis of inflammatory demyelinating disorders of the nervous system, dynamic observation of this parameter in individual cases helps the understanding of the tendency of patients' clinical condition to improve or worsen. The mechanism of CSF immunoglobulin increases in various neurologic (especially inflammatory demyelinating) disorders is discussed.

Indications for closed vitrectomy have increased remarkably during the past 10 years to include numerous anterior and posterior segment conditions not amenable in the past to other forms of intraocular surgery. Instrumentation and technic for both closed and open-sky vitrectomies have undergone numerous improvements, making the procedures relatively safe and results quite encouraging.

The authors propose the name retroperitoneal extension type of acute necrotic pancreatitis for the condition in which a large amount of exudate containing enzymes flows into the retroperitoneal space. As illustrations the authors report 3 cases of this type in this paper. Early surgical treatment is emphasized and described in detail. In order to differentiate the clinical picture, 38 cases of necrotic pancreatitis and 27 of hemorrhagic pancreatitis are compared.
